Acupuncture is the insertion of needles into specific points in an animals body for treatment. Insertion of the needles generates a physiologic response in your pet's body including increased blood flow, influx of anti-inflammatory mediators, endorphin release, and neurological stimulation. Each point utilized is associated with a specific nerve and those nerves are targeted depending upon your pet's ailment. Acupuncture is used to treat a variety of conditions including:
Arthritis; back and neck pain; disk disease or spinal cord injury; neurological disorders; voiding dysfunction; digestive disorders; wound healing; upper respiratory disorders, post-surgical pain, recovery following trauma, and much more.
A previous diagnosis of these problems is preferred, as it means that there is a definite series of symptoms and disorders being treated, rather than aimlessly attempting to fix an indefinite problem. The first acupuncture session does take a little more than 60 minutes. Follow up treatments range from 30-40 minutes.
