Basic Prophy +/- Extractions
A basic prophy is just a simple dental cleaning and exam. You can click the "Dentistry" tab to get more information. Extractions are sometimes necessary when the gums and jawbones cannot appropriately hold teeth, or when there are major cavities. Occasionally we come across broken and shattered teeth and those have to be removed to reduce the risk of abscesses and infection. For examples of some of the work done here click.
Jaw Fractures
The mandible is the lower jaw. Fractures of the lower jaw can be caused by head trauma, and they usually come in groups of other problems: upper airway obstruction, central nervous system trauma, pulmonary contusion, etc. The maxilla is the upper jaw. Fractures of the upper jaw are also caused by head trauma or bite/fight wounds with similar secondary complications as mandibular fractures.
